As the years go by and life continues to get busier and busier, many couples neglecting their marriages. Whether it be children or careers that demand most of their attention, their relationship is often put on the back burner and the flame begins diminishing. It doesn’t have to be this way, though.
By putting in effort to keep your marriage front and center, it’s easier than it seems to keep the spark alive.
A great way to begin is to look back to when you and your husband began dating. What small things did you do for each other back then that you can start up again?
For example, maybe you used to make him his favorite pancakes on Sunday mornings, but with kid’s soccer games to get to the tradition has been lost. Reinstate it, even if it means getting up an hour early. Doing the small thing to make each other happy can have a huge positive impact on your marriage.

Another way to reconnect with your spouse is by setting aside designated time to be alone together. Ask friends or family to watch your children for a night, and have yourselves a good old fashioned date night! Get dressed up and go to dinner at your favorite restaurant.
Make a pact that certain topics are off limits, and instead of talking about PTA or work stress, flirt with your spouse. Be playful and carefree, even if it’s just for the night. Put a date night on the schedule once a month, it will give you something to look forward to if things start to feel a bit mundane.
Most importantly, never stop talking. Ultimately it is your friendship and teamwork that will ensure your marriage stands the test of time. When life gets stressful, lean on each other rather than turning away.
Make sure that your spouse knows that no matter what, you will stand by their side. Feeling safe and secure in a relationship will be the foundation you need to keep the spark alive. When you know that you can count on someone, you’re more likely to do things to make them happy.
